Ingress Protection (IP)

Protection against dust, solid objects and moisture (IPxx protection)

The waterproof light fixtures made by IBV Hungária Kft. have very high (IP 65) protection against dust and water, and accordingly, can be used very effectively, where protection against dust, vapour, humidity, and soiling is necessary. In case of outdoor application, the protection of the luminaire by a protecting roof is recommended. On customer’s request IP 67 protection grade is available.

The luminaires must be resistant to moisture and dust on a level defined in the standard for luminaires.
In case of the lowest level the luminaires are not protected against moisture and dust, but the parts under voltage can only be reached using tools. The luminaires without given grade of protection have IP 20 protection.

The following table and list give a summary of the grades of protection, their names and markings:

Built in components

Wires with heat resistance of at least 105°C have to be used for electric connections and as connecting wires. They must have (depending on type) cross-sections of 1.5 to 4 mm2, and with free ends of appr. 6-9 mm. If it is requested, serial connectors fitted with safety fuses can also be installed against surges. Separate kits of trough wiring can be ordered for in-line mounting, which also provide the possibility for supply from different AC phases.

Attaching cables for connection is possible by piercing the flexible end plugs at both ends of the luminaire. For special request, cable gland with Pg 13.5 threads are also available instead of end plugs.
The luminaires with double insulation mark do not require earthing (connection with two-core wires). All the other luminaries are in the protection class “I”, and they have protective earthing (three-core wires must be used to connect them).

Mark  indicates the earth pole; green-yellow colours indicate the wire.
Before opening the enclosure of the luminaires (replacement of lamps or starters, cleaning) electricity is always to be turned off!

In case of luminaires with dimmable ballast, it is advisable to burn-in the fluorescent tubes without any dimming first (appr. 50 hours) in order to maintain the optimal lifetime of the tubes.

Protection against mechanic shocks

The luminaires must resist the mechanic effects in normal use, and they must remain safe to operate.
The IBV luminaries are made of high-tensile materials which meet all the requirements of the standard EN 60598. The fragile, translucent parts of the luminaires (mainly diffusers) are in conformity with the requested 0.2 Nm impact strength of the standard; for other components 0.35 Nm.
For our waterproof battens protective tubes and protective grids are available to prevent damage of the lamps. In case of luminaires with magnetic ballasts protective tubes can only be installed with DEOS starter, or electronic ballasts have to be used!I n case of covered waterproof lights, if the diffuser requires more protection against mechanic impacts, it is advisable to order them with polycarbonate (PC) diffuser.
Vandal-proof versions are offered with PC diffuser or protective tubes, metal grids and instead of plastic clips safety metal latches shall be used (V2A), which can be opened only by a special tool.

The luminaires must be stored in covered and dry places, protected from heat!
No outdoor storage is allowed!

Methods of electric wiring and connection

All the installed electric components meet the requirements of the European standards of safety and have certificates from at least one testing institute (CEBEC, KEMA, ÖVE, VDE, N, S, D, F, BS, IMQ, UTE …) in the ENEC Group.
Mains voltage: 230V 50Hz (on request: 110, 127, 220, 240V 50/60Hz)

  • Low power factor (LPF) :  ≤   0,5
  • High power factor (HPF) :  ≥   0,85

The capacity values of the installed capacitors are selected according to suggestions from the producers of the ballasts. Suppression of radio interference disturbance is solved by integrating a 47 nF (0.047 µF) capacitor, or parallel capacitor.

Our low power factor (LPF) waterproof light fixtures (cos ~ 0,4-0,65) are offered for places where central compensation is provided for the network. These products also include noise trap condensers.

Our high-power factor (HPF) luminaries include individual parallel capacitors for phase improvement to compensate idle electric capacity (cosφ ~ 1,0).

Our waterproof lights are available with low loss magnetic (VVG) or electronic (EVG) ballasts, these latter ones can be ordered with light intensity control (dimmable) ballasts, as well. For customer’s request we can build in safety starts. If needed, we can also install batteries and electronics in our luminaries, so that they can be used as emergency lights for the duration of 1-3 hours.

Certification marks

Our company has an ISO 9001-2008 certificate, issued by the independent SGS Institute of Certification.
The IBV waterproof lighting fixtures can be used on environmental temperature in conformity with the Standard EN 60598.
In case of other requirements a preliminary consultation with the producer is suggested.

„CE” mark of product conformity

According to the provisions of law in force, the manufacturer must declare that its products meet the valid requirements of standards and technical requirements applied in the countries of the European Union. For luminaires are e.g. the low voltage (73/23/EWG and 93/68/EWG), and the electromagnetic compatibility (89/336/EWG) directives valid.

Independent marks of product quality: „ENEC11”

Apart from the compulsory „CE” declaration, an independent third party also attests the quality of our products. A sample of the product having been tested and found acceptable by the institute of qualification. This is the basis on which the certificate is granted, and this test must be renewed at certain intervals. Besides the product samples the manufacturer itself is examined as well, during inspections at the production facility at regular intervals.

IBV Hungária Kft. provides in addition to a „CE” declaration also further documents of quality assurance to the customers, which are based on the results of inspections made by independent bodies. The name, professional past and references of the certifying body are the guarantee which makes the quality certificate authentic and valuable.
The quality of luminaires made by IBV Hungária Kft. is attested by internationally accepted certificates issued by ÖVE ÖSTERREICHISCHER VERBAND FÜR ELEKTROTECHNIK (Austrian Association of Electrotechnics) with headquarters in Vienna.

Our luminaires are sold with ÖVE qualification, and they also bear CE marks to attest meeting the requirements of international standards. Our products are authorised to bear ENEC signs, with which they can be sold without any further qualification in more than 20 European countries which have joined the LUM Agreement.

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

The electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the property of an electrical equipment or system, that it works satisfactorily in electromagnetic environment without causing electromagnetic disturbance in other equipment in its environment.

The appliances, which can cause such electromagnetic disturbance or can be affected by such disturbances have to be built out as follows:

  1. the electromagnetic disturbance evolved by them mustn’t pass the level, which still makes possible the proper function of equipment for telecommunication, radio-telecommunication and others,
  2. they must have such own tolerance against electromagnetic disturbance, which makes possible their proper function.

The checking of the disturbance evolving, and tolerance suitability of the electrical products is specified in the regulations of the European countries. This kind of suitability can be proved most easily with the suitability of the specifications of the relevant standards.

Compliance with the EMC standard (EMC = electromagnetic compatibility) means, that each luminaire meets the requirements of EMC of the corresponding norms. These are:

  • limited generation of disturbance
  • sufficient tolerance of disturbance

Limited generation of disturbance means, that the electromagnetic disturbances are limited in a way, that proper function of equipments for radio- and telecommunication is possible, namely

  • harmonics limitation
  • limitation of radio disturbances (reflected and performance bounded)

The sufficient disturbance stability means, that the equipment has a measured stability against the electromagnetic disturbances, so the proper function is possible. Sufficient disturbance stability is for example the stability against potential breakdown, impulse of mains current, electrostatic discharge, surge voltage.

Application

Every luminaire has a proper insulation to prevent accessible metal parts from getting under voltage. The elements, which are under voltage during operation, must be protected by an additional layer of insulation, or by a necessary cover. It means that there are measures of protection, which prevent the accessible elements from getting under voltage, even if there are some faults in the layers of insulation.
The next section presents the grades of shock protection of luminaries made by IBV Hungária Kft.

If no class is given in the type designation, it means its class is “I”.

Shock Protection Class “I”(shock protection with earthing)

There are terminals in the luminaries for the protective conductor.
The mark is indicated at the place of electric connection.

In case of malfunction in the luminaire, the protective conductor takes the voltage from the metal parts, preventing the user from an eventual electric shock.

Shock Protection Class “II” (double insulation)

These products must not have accessible metal parts which may get directly under voltage in case of any malfunction (protective insulation, double insulation). The construction itself provides the double or reinforced insulation, so there is no need for protective wire (earth). That’s why appliances with double insulation must not be connected to protective wire, must not be earthed.

Mark of double insulation:

Mounting on flammable materials

The construction of the luminaires and their bodies is made of fibreglass polyester providing a high degree of resistance against burning. They can be mounted onto any surface with normal combustibility (ignition temperature of minimum 200°C) /”F” mark/. On customer’s request production from self-extinguishing material (GWT 850°C) is also possible.
For use in rooms with extreme hazards of fire “D” marked luminaires are available.

this mark means that the luminaire can be mounted directly onto surfaces with materials of normal combustibility

“D” mark: the luminaire can be used in rooms where combustible, but not potentially explosive substances are present (e.g. hovering dust, fibres in the air) (e.g. carpenters’ workshop – sawdust in the air, mills – hovering flour in the air, feathers processing, etc.)

IBV luminaires must not be used in rooms with hazards of explosion!
